12,000 Boards in 24 Hours

Breaking Kids’ Barriers One Board at a Time!

Leif Becker, a martial artist with multiple world records for fastest board breaking, is on a mission to help youth overcome personal barriers. Based in New York City, Breaking Barriers officially launched in 2013 on the Today Show with martial artist Leif Becker effortlessly smashing 70 wooden boards.

Each board broken through Breaking Barriers showcases a mental or physical barrier, as signed and illustrated by local children. By obliterating those boards, Leif demonstrates the ability to physically overcome such barriers, while foreshadowing an even bigger attempt. As a grand finale to a national tour of youth organizations, Leif will break 12,000 boards in 24 hours, every board representing a child’s personal barrier. The event will be hosted at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in the heart of Time Square, Spring 2017.

Leif Becker has been featured on the Late Show with David Letterman, Spike TV’s Deadliest Warrior, Good Day NY, and more.

The Breaking Barriers Event will benefit enCourage Kids Foundation, a non-profit based in New York City. enCourage Kids Foundation encourages all kids facing health challenges to be carefree kids by creating environments and experiences that help them through each step of their medical journey.

enCourage programs reach kids facing a variety of health issues, from those receiving chemo treatments in a clinic to those who live with a chronic illness that may not be visible. What they all have in common is that they deserve the same opportunities to laugh, to play, and to have fun, whether they are being treated in the hospital or living with their struggles at home.

The debut 2017 Breaking Barriers Event will be hosted on site at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! located on West 42nd in Time Square. More than 300,000 pedestrians enter the heart of Times Square each day. In October 2015, Times Square recorded 375,061 daily visitors with 74,565 pedestrians on West 42nd.  Join us for the Breaking Barriers event with Leif Becker in 2017!

The world record breaking event will take place over two days. Every hour, martial artist Leif Becker will smash through boards representing kids’ barriers until he has obliterated 12,000 boards in 24 hours. The event will be free and open to the public.  Join us!

Leif would like to thank those that have taken the time to support his event and sign a board in his efforts to help children overcome personal challenges.
